Ice-cream man pays a visit to Harrogate children's ward for Children in Need

John Taylor and his uncle David McBretney, of C&M Ices, travelled all over the district for Children in Need as part of group of ice-cream men throughout Yorkshire who raised money for the charitable cause.

While John took one of the trucks over the Ripon, David parked up at Harrogate District Hospital and gave out tubs of tasty strawberry and vanilla icecream to patients and staff on Woodlands ward.

Mr McBretney said: "I think we have handed out about 500 ice-creams over the last couple of days. It's really good to see the smiles on the kids faces when we hand them out, that's what it's all about. We thought it was a good idea and we wanted to do something to give something back."

Angelic faces on the ward soon turned into mucky pups as the ice creams were passed round and the children tucked in.

One little girl, Rosie, 3, had only recently just been able to eat ice-cream for the first time after she had grown tolerant to a dairy allergy that she was born with.

Rosie explained 'white' ice-cream was her favourite as she tucked into the vanilla side of her tub.

Last year, John from C&M Ices went down to London to appear on the BBC Children in Need show as part of his efforts for the cause.
