A leading Yorkshire housebuilder has donated £1,000 towards funds to install a much-needed recreational space in Follifoot.

The donation was given to Friends of Follifoot Wildlife Recreation and Play (FOFWRAP) by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire as part of their community champions initiative.

As well as a children’s playground, the group are planning to instal a wildlife/nature area as well as a playing field.

Having secured planning permission in November 2016, FOFWRAP has undertaken extensive fundraising efforts to reach their target of £70,000.

Samantha Gallimore, Chair of FOFWRAP, said: “We are a dedicated community group of six volunteers who are working tirelessly to establish a brand new and much-needed recreational space for our village.

“We’ve organised a string of well-attended events including a wine-tasting evening in March 2017 which raised over £1,120 as well as an annual ‘Folliwood’ event which takes the form of a pop-up Indian restaurant in the village hall which raised over £1,000.

“Our vision is to create an area called ‘Follifields’ that will be an inclusive community space for everyone in the village to enjoy.

“We are extremely thankful to Persimmon Homes Yorkshire for getting us one step closer towards achieving our goal.”

The community champions scheme is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.

Simon Usher, managing director of Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “We can see how important this new recreation space will be to the Follifoot residents so we’re more than happy to donate to such worthy winners.

“The fundraising efforts by FOFWRAP have been incredible so far and I wish the group the very best of luck in achieving additional funding so that their vision can come to life.

“As ever, it’s difficult to choose just two charities with so many good causes in and around Yorkshire.

“However, I’d like to encourage charities to get in touch and make an application.”
