High flying cadets reap yearly rewards

The awards evening put the spotlight on individual successes as well as highlighting the achievements of the squadron as a whole.

A spokesman said: “The Air Training Corps enriches the lives of young adults between the ages of 13 and 20 by providing an extensive range of aviation based activities, as well a wide variety of other exciting opportunities within such areas as sport, music, weapons handling and Duke of Edinburgh Award.”

Awards were presented by guests of honour, Mayor Andrew Willoughby, Mayoress Christine Willoughby, Flight Lieutenant Shirley Tune, Warrant Officer Tony Tune and President of the Civilian Committee Pete Finan.

The awards were presented as follows: Best Newcomer – Cadet Daniel Dodds; Most Promising Cadet- Cadet Victoria Franklin; Academic Achievement – Corporal Josh Robinson-Brockhill; Best Junior NCO – Corporal Fizz Hunter; Best Senior NCO – Flight Sergeant Susie Firth; Best Attendance – Cadet Chloe Foxton; Best Male Cadet – Cadet James Firth; Best Female Cadet – Sergeant Rosie Leach; Sports Award – Sergeants Michael Manning and Rosie Leach; Drill and Deportment – Corporal Jack Wills; Flying Award – Cadet Daniel Dodds; Cadet of the Year – Flight Sergeant Susie Firth.

The year has also been busy with many cadets obtaining their first, leading and master classifications.

First Classification – Cdt Ben Davison, Cdt Chloe Foxton, Cdt Victoria Franklin, Cdt Harry Gill, Cdt Benjamin Haase, Cpl Felicity Hunter, Cdt Jack Parker, Cdt Harley Preston, Cdt James Richardson, Cpl Josh Robinson Brockhill, Cdt Joseph Sowerby, Cdt Jowarar Takhar, Cdt James Firth, Cdt Elise Walton, Cpl Jack Wills.

Leading Classification – Cdt James Firth, Cpl Josh Robinson Brockhill, Cpl James Wills, Cdt Harley Preston, Cpl Fizz Hunter.

Master Classification – Flt Sgt Susie Firth, Sgt Michael Manning, Sgt Rosie Leach.

Although the evening was focussed on awards, cadets spoke about achievements.

Corporal Fizz Hunter recalled her experiences about her first time flying while Flight Sergeant Susie Firth enlightened the audience about being selected to become the Station Commander’s Cadet at RAF Linton-On-Ouse.

The evening also marked an important milestone for three of the squadron’s newest cadets, as they were enrolled into the Air Training Corps.

At the other end of their journey, the squadron also said goodbye to two well respected cadets - Cadet Warrant Officer James Fawthrop and Sergeant Will Friday.
