Motorists have been warned to be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions as a result of the snow.

The warning reads: “Overnight Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, as snow peters out over Scotland, there is the potential for snow to settle to low levels over parts of Yorkshire and down into the northeast Midlands, though with a good deal of uncertainty about this.”

Snow has already fallen over the weekend in northern parts of the country including the area around Tan Hill in North Yorkshire, and caused traffic headaches on a roadway near Nenthead, Cumbria.

Sleet is expected to fall in Harrogate from 3am on Wednesday with this turning into heavy snow one hour later with light rain then expected at 11am.
