Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen a van which was involved in a serious collision and has left the driver in critical condition

A white Vauxhall Astra van and a silver Ford Focus collided on the A658 between the two junctions for North Rigton, on Monday night at around 5.30pm.

The van, which had ‘Future Builds’ written on the side was travelling towards Huby when it crashed into the car travelling in the opposite direction, towards Harrogate.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: “The driver of the van, a 39-year-old local man, suffered serious injuries in the incident and was taken to Harrogate Hospital for treatment, before being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary. His condition is described as critical.”

The Ford Focus driver, a 60-year-old woman from the Harrogate area, was shocked but not injured by the collision.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the incident to come forward with information.

It has been reported that the van may have overtaken a number of other vehicles prior to the collision and officers would like to speak to anyone who remembers being passed by it.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Traffic Constable Charles Ferguson or Harrogate Roads Policing Group.
