What would top your ultimate ‘must-eat’ list - street food in Asia, croissants in Paris, breakfast in New York?

According to experts, afternoon tea at Harrogate’s own Bettys is second only to enjoying a takeaway with a good bottle of wine in the list of global essential dining experiences.

TV chef Simon Rimmer helped compile a ‘bucket list’ of food outings and recipes for people to try, with Bettys standing tall among rivals such as Beluga caviar and Tapas in Madrid’s San Miguel Market.

Bettys manager Hazel Bone said: “Afternoon tea is one of life’s great pleasures.

“We are delighted to have been commended for our dainty sandwiches, handmade cakes and freshly baked sultana scones served with strawberry preserve and Yorkshire clotted cream.”

Simon Rimmer explained the list, which was compiled for electronics company Kenwood.

He said: “We’ve pulled together what we believe to be the ultimate, unmissable gastronomic experiences for food-loving Brits.

“From the simple pleasures of a pork pie, to soaking up the spice markets of Marrakech, there’s something on there for everyone.”
