Budget gym operator Pure Gym says it expects to open in Harrogate ‘in late 2015’ or even early in 2016, rather than next month.

As part of the gym’s promotional offer, customers are being offered a cheaper pre-sale monthly rate should they join now, as well as paying a £15 joining fee.

However, the offer ensures that a second payment will not come out of customers’ accounts until one month after the gym opens.

A spokesman for Pure Gym has confirmed that they would not be able to open their site until late 2015 or even early 2016.

Many Harrogate residents have already joined the gym to take advantage of the discounted offer but some have taken to Twitter to enquire about its opening date.

David Vernon tweeted the gym to say he had signed himself and his wife up for membership before asking when they would be opening.

Pure Gym’s official Twitter page replied: “We are working towards November, but please keep checking back for updates.”

However, a spokesman for the gym said it was not the case that they would be opening in November.

The new 17,000 sq ft facility will be based in the Travelodge development on Tower Street in Harrogate.
