Harrogate man flees violence at England/Russia clash

A Harrogate eye witness at the England/Russia match has described England fans' "mad scramble" to escape the violence as he too attempted to flee.

UEFA has now begun disciplinary proceedings against Russia - but not England - after what it said were "totally unacceptable" scenes at Saturday's England-Russia game.Cory McLeod, who was in the stadium watching the game, told the BBC: "A wall of Russian fans charged at our section, which had kids, women, and even some Russian fans in."I couldn't see if any of them had weapons or anything but people were running fast, it was manic, just a desperate scramble towards a large fence in the corner."In 2012 his father Ian Mcleod scanned 7500 pictures of Cory to make an incredible six and a half minute long time lapse video of every day of his life.It later went viral, attracting millions of fans online.Footage appeared to show Russia fans rush at England supporters after the Euro 2016 1-1 draw in Marseille.UEFA's charges against Russia include for crowd disturbances, racist behaviour, and setting off fireworks.Cory's dad Ian told the Harrogate Advertiser his son was in that crowd that was charged by the Russians. Fortunately, he managed to scramble away. Earlier, in Marseille, he told Ian that a motorbike had ridden past him and the pillion passenger had used a tazer on his mate, The UK government said it had offered to send extra British police to France ahead of England's next match in Lens on Thursday.
