Harrogate Magistrates Court weekly round-up

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on March 15:

Richard Anthony Cordice, 38, of 5 St Andrew’s Road, Harrogate, was fined £300 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 12 months, to be reduced by three months on completion of an approved course.

Mark Liam Nicholson, 20,, of 25 Avenue Street, Harrogate, was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment suspended for 12 months for assault by beating, possession of a blade, and using threatening or abusive words with intent to cause fear of violence, in Parliament Street, Harrogate. He was ordered to complete a Thinking Skills programme and complete 300 hours of unpaid work. Magistrates imposed a victim surcharge of £80 and ordered that the knife be forfeited and destroyed.

Harry James Woodward, 20, of 7 West End, Kirk Hammerton, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for damaging a glass leaded window worth £2,393.20 at The Board Inn, 3 High Street, Knaresborough. He was ordered to pay compensation of £520 and a victim surcharge of £15.

Sally Alexandra Hanford, 36, of 18 Slingsby Crescent, Harrogate, was given a 12-month community order for dangerous driving and failing to surrender to custody. She was ordered to complete treatment for drug dependency and mental health. No separate penalty was imposed for driving without insurance, but she was ordered to pay compensation of £300 for causing £700 of damage to a Vauxhall Astra. For a separate charge of damaging windows in Avondale Road, she was ordered to pay compensation of £316.80.

Thomas Geoffrey John Hardy, 26, of 36A Wetherby Road, Harrogate, was fined £50 for failing to report an accident after the car he was driving collided with a dry stone wall. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20, costs of £85.

George Goodbarn, 19, of 26 Aismunderby Road, Ripon, was fined £200 for driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85, and was disqualified from driving for 20 months

Sean Sanpher, 47, of 6 Birstwith Road, Harrogate, was fined £275 for using a vehicle for private hire without a licence. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £27 and costs of £450. No separate penalty was imposed for a second charge of using a vehicle for private hire without a licence.

Stephen Paul Ingles, 51, of 26 Cawthorn Avenue, Harrogate, was fined £200 for selling cigarettes to an 11-year-old boy. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £615.37.
