Harrogate Magistrates Court weekly round-up

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on February 18:

Michael Anthony Burke, 50, of 15 Parliament Terrace, Harrogate, was given a three-month curfew for assault by beating. He was ordered to pay compensation of £50.

John Robertson, 75, of Flat 4, Tyringham, 38 Rutland Drive, Harrogate, was fined £310 for failing to stop following an accident. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £31, and five points were added to his licence.

Adam James Anthony May, 28, of H M Prison Hedon Road, Hull, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for stealing a purse, an iPhone 5s, a driving licence, bank cards and £200 cash in Park Road, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15.

Christopher Robert Webster, 24, of Flat 2, 27-28 Bloomsgate, Ripon, was fined £140 for stealing a case of Stella Artois lager in North Street, Ripon. He was ordered to pay compensation of £8 and a victim surcharge of £20.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on February 16:

Andrew Michael Keogh, 27, of 7-8 Bower Street, Harrogate, was ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge for stealing three chocolate bars worth £3.94 from the One Stop in Knaresborough Road, Harrogate. For behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, he was ordered to be detained in the courthouse until the court rose.

Patrick Sean Mason, 25, of Flat 4, 5-7 Stockwell Lane, Knaresborough, was given a six-month conditional discharge for stealing two bottles of New Amsterdam vodka from Asda in Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £26, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £30.

Tom Robert Nixon, 20, of Ilton Grange, Warthermarske, Ripon, was fined £100 for driving while under the influence of cannabis. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £150, and 10 points were added to his licence.

Wayne Goldsmith, 37, of Flat 2, 11 High Skellgate, Ripon, was given a four-week curfew for stealing Dyson vacuum cleaners worth a total of £799.96 from the Co-Op in Jenny Field Drive, jointly with Nicola Parr. He was ordered to pay compensation of £60.

Nicola Catherine Parr, 29, of Flat 2, 11 High Skellgate, Ripon, was given a 12-month community order for stealing Dyson vacuum cleaners worth a total of £799.96 from the Co-Op in Jenny Field Drive, jointly with Wayne Goldsmith. She was ordered to complete treatment for drug dependency and pay compensation of £90. For stealing meat and alcohol worth £181.73 from Booths in Ripon, she was ordered to pay £90 compensation.

The following were among those dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on February 16 for non-payment of council tax:

Maria Gilby, of 61 Doublegates Green, Ripon, was ordered to pay £1,764.29 or in default to serve three months suspended. A J Harper, of 19 Cundall Avenue, Asenby, Thirsk, £1,751.30 or in default 28 days. Darren Kay, of Old Byre, Poplar Farm, Wormald Green, £406.05 or 45 days suspended.
