Harrogate goes to the polls in General Election

Voters in the Harrogate district will be joining millions across the country going to the polls today, Thursday, to pick their MP.

Voters in the Harrogate district will be joining millions across the country going to the polls today, Thursday, to pick their MP.

General election polling stations will be open from 7am as the electorate decides who will represent them in the new Parliament and who will become PM.

The polls will close at 10pm and the count will take place at Harrogate Convention Centre.

The Harrogate Advertiser will be at the Harrogate count with a team of reporters ready to post the result as soon as we get it.

In Harrogate, Andrew Jones (Conservative) is defending a majority of 18,168 from Judith Rogerson (Lib Dem), Mark Sewards (Labour) and Kieron George (Yorkshire Party).

In Skipton and Ripon, Julian Smith (Conservative) is defending a majority of 19, 985 from Brian McDaid (Labour), Andrew Murday (Lib Dem), Andy Brown (Green) and Jack Render (Yorkshire Party).

In Elmet and Rothwell, which includes Wetherby, Alec Shelbrooke (Conservative) is defending a majority of 9,805 from David Nagle (Labour), Penny Stables (Green), Stewart Golton (Lib Dem) and Matthew Clover (Yorkshire Party).
