Adrian Warrington told the Harrogate Advertiser last month that his daughter Amy wanted to ride 100 miles to raise money for Cancer Research after her grandma, Margaret Hutchinson, died of pancreatic cancer just three months after diagnosis.

He then challenged her to add a few more miles and do the coast to coast, and the pair set off from Morecambe heading onto Ingleton, Hawes, and Redmire where they stayed the first night after riding a total of 51 miles.

Their second day, which took in part of the North Yorkshire Moors, covered 55 miles, and their final day, which saw them arrive at their final destination in Robin Hood’s Bay, ventured across 32 miles.

Amy’s family are still collecting sponsor money and has raised £1,395 so far.

Adrian said: “Amy did very well over the three day ride not allowing any of the terrain to phase her, cycling up the hills like a steam train.

“On some of the hills she was pulling away and got to the top before me, which I blamed it on the amount of luggage I had to carry in my panniers.

“After every day I asked her if her legs aching and if she was feeling tired and she always replied no, she just seemed to have endless energy.

“We as a family have supported Amy in her challenge and think it’s a big achievement for a 12-year-old to do, and maybe next she will be ready for a new challenge.”

Adrian said he hopes to keep riding with his daughter every week. They went on a 20-mile ride last weekend, despite recently completing their recent trip.

Adrian said: “From start to finish the ride went very well. The weather was good and Amy rode very strong every day and pulling up every hill on the route and not having to get off and walk once.

“In total we rode 138 miles and the actual riding time was 12 hours. There have been a lot of very generous people who has sponsored her and I would like to thank everyone.”
