A cyclist from Harrogate is in a serious condition in hospital after a fall from his racing bike near Norwood.

Police say the 44-year-old was left with serious head injuries after the crash at around 9.30pm on Monday, April 13.

The Harrogate man underwent surgery at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and police said today (Tuesday) he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The crash happened on the B6451 just past the Sun Inn at Norwood.

The cyclist, riding a blue racing cycle towards the A59, was accompanied by another cyclist behind him when he lost control and fell from his bike.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved, say police, appealing for witnesses.

TC Steve James, of Harrogate Road Policing Group, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who saw two cycles travelling along the B6451 between 9pm and 9.30pm on Monday, April 13.

“Both cycles were displaying lights and would have been clearly visible.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact TC 117 Steve James of Harrogate Road Policing Group on 101, quoting reference 12150060626.
