The trees were planted by 36 pupils from the school near the site of the council's new Civic Headquarters.

The hazel, rowan, field maple and hawthorn trees were planted along the north side of the site of the building at Knapping Mount, as a part of the National Tree Week celebrations.

The new trees were planted near the more mature trees in the area to help in the regeneration of the woodland and provide a continued safe habitat for local wildlife.

The Mayor of Harrogate, Coun Nick Brown, said: "I had a wonderful afternoon. I was delighted to meet the young pupils, who showed huge enthusiasm at the thought of planting all those trees and seemed to really enjoy themselves.

"In around twenty years, they will be able to look at how the trees have grown with a great sense of pride, knowing that they planted them all those years ago.”
