The Roosters were asked to bat first in the ECB Yorkshire Premier League North fixture at St George’s Road and did not fare well.

Captain George Ross (21), Ash Griffin (20) and Harry Stothard (20) were the only home players to make any kind of an impression as ‘Gate were skittled for just 104 in 36.3 overs.

There was however no opportunity for Alliance to complete what would likely have been a routine victory due to heavy rainfall.

The heavens opened before the visitors even had chance to face a single delivery and the game was eventually abandoned, meaning both teams finished the day with five points to their name.

‘Gate sit 10th in the league standings, just one place and four points above the relegation zone.

Just below them in the table are local rivals Sessay, who ended a run of three games without a win when they eased past Driffield Town.

Mark Wilkie’s team were left with it all to do after the home team made their way to 253/3 batting first.

The Thirsk outfit made light work of their run-chase, however, Matthew Till (77) and skipper Wilkie (48) laying the foundations with a fine opening stand of 117.

Mark Jackson (62 not out) and Jacob Spencer (39 not out) then finished the job, completing an eight-wicket success with almost 13 overs to spare.
