Happy ending for injured dog found tied to a tree in Harrogate woodland

Eighteen-month-old lurcher Woody had a broken leg when he was rescued from Angram Woods and he was rushed for emergency treatment at Abbey House Veterinary Hospital in Leeds, where clinic dispenser Louise Denby’s heart melted at the sight of him.

Woody was taken to a Dogs Trust centre after his operation, but Louise couldn’t forget about his plight and she has now adopted him as a companion for her family dog, Rocky.

“I first spotted him when he was being taken outside to go to the toilet. He couldn’t walk properly and he looked so sad, my heart went out to him. I gave him a cuddle and then spent time with him every day, whenever I could,” said Louise.

“As soon as he went I missed him and couldn’t get him out of my head so I went along to discuss whether we could rehome him. We were over the moon when we were told we could. I visited him every day until he was able to come home with us.”

Woody is now back to full health and is able to walk again.

“He attracts a lot of attention on his walks and everyone wants to know his story. Considering he has been through so much he’s incredible. He adores everyone and we adore him. He loves relaxing on the sofa with us and none of us can imagine life without him. He’s wonderful and it’s a privilege to have been able to give him a loving home.”

Woody’s surprise adoption has delighted York Road rehoming centre manager Amanda Sands.

“We were shocked when we heard how Woody had been left in so much pain. He’s a really sweet boy. We couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome for him.”
