Church Services: on Sunday, December 29 the United Benefice Eucharist will be at 10.30am at St. Andrew’s Church in Burnt Yates. The Joint Benefice Service will be held at St. Thomas a Becket Church in Hampsthwaite led by Rev Cannon Kenneth Cook at 11am.

YCA News: the annual lunch of the Burnt Yates cum Hartwith branch will take place on January 8 at the Station Hotel in Birstwith.

Hampsthwaite’s Village Society: award winning presenter Ellie Jackson and fellow presenter Michael Streeton will be talking about Harrogate Hospital Radio on Thursday, January 9 at 7.30pm in the memorial hall.

Hampsthwaite Book Exchange: with falling numbers using the service, Pauline Myers has decided to discontinue this. Over the two years it has been running however, £250 has gone towards the upkeep of the village room. Thank you to Pauline for running the exchange which plugged the gap following the withdrawal of the mobile library service.

Be aware: there has been a worrying spate of burglaries in the local area recently so please do make sure doors and windows are locked and if neighbours are away for the festive season, you keep an eye open for suspicious behaviour. It is easy to become complacent, living as we do in this relatively crime free area.

Opening times: the post office in Hampsthwaite will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Costcutter in Hampsthwaite is open for normal hours save that it will shut at 6pm on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
