Golf day is a firm favourite

Family-run firm Northern Energy has raised nearly £13,970 for Saint Michael’s Hospice by holding a golf day and charity auction and dinner.

The company’s annual golf day started in the 1980s at the then newly opened Romanby course in Northallerton and was backed by a handful of customers.

Now in its 12th year and hosted at Oakdale in Harrogate for the last five years, up to 25 teams of four players supported the event.

Funds were raised by charging the teams a fee to enter the tournament. On the 16th hole, a Gamble Hole was announced, which consisted of a £5 entry fee and double or quits on hitting the green. A massive £500 was raised on this sub-tournament alone.

The day included prizes of sporting memorabilia, crystal glass, and a tailor made suit were among many other generously donated prizes by friends and suppliers.

A spokesman said: “Retired English cricketer, Phillip DeFreitas gave a fantastic after dinner speech to end the event.”

Northern Energy will raise money for Children in Need.
