Gallery: Opening of Scran Restaurant in Harrogate

The restaurant and hotel, known for grand architecture joins The White Hart Hotel & Apartments and Fat Badger Pub as flagship venues in Harrogate.

Scran restaurant and bar is headed up by Executive Chef Dean Sowden, previously of Harrogate’s longstanding Deano’s Graze and Grill before he sold the business last year. Dean cut his teeth at the age of 16, working alongside Michelin

Starred Chef Simon Gueller at ‘Millers’ in Harrogate. He then continued his culinary journey in many well-established restaurants throughout Yorkshire such as Rascasse and Harvey Nichols in Leeds, picking up numerous accolades along the way.

Scran (a term used for food generally in the north of England) will serve contemporary British cuisine with locally sourced ingredients, such as beef from R&J Butchers at Kirkby Malzeard, Yorkshire blue cheese and Three Little Pigs Yorkshire chorizo. With a focus on small plates, diners can taste various mouth-watering dishes encouraging sharing and a taste of different flavours.

The Yorkshire Hotel is steeped in history and was originally known at Prospect House, built in 1818 by Nicolas Carter Snr. who along with his family owned most of the property and land which now constitutes the centre of Harrogate. Having refurbished the restaurant, HRH Group now has plans to continue with all of the bedrooms and public areas, a contract recently won by Cardinal.

The hotel will also be the location of the Skybar. Harrogate’s highest drinking venue with spectacular view over the town, serving Scran’s incredible food.

Completion for the upcoming work is November with the Skybar and brand new lifts being installed much quicker.
