Further rail strikes could hit district this month

A further round of rail strikes by Northern employees is set to take place later this month.

Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers will strike on Thursday, May 24 and Saturday, May 26.

A reduced service will likely be in place according to rail operator Northern, with trains operating between 7am and 7pm. The number of trains will be reduced to around 40 per cent of the usual service across the country.

The RMT has taken action over 11 days so far, due to concerns over the future of trains guards and the extension of Driver Only Operations.

The last strike took place on Wednesday (May, 9), with passengers facing disruption due to the reduced service
