Ripon Cathedral has announced the date of the funeral for the Dean of Ripon, the Very Rev Keith Jukes, who died suddenly at the age of 59 last week.
It will take place at the cathedral on Friday, May 31, with a gathering from noon and the service starting at 1.30pm.
A spokesman said: “All are warmly invited to gather with Dean Keith’s family and the cathedral community for tea, cake and chat before the service, from noon onwards.
“If you wish to do so, please bring with you a small stone that fits in the palm of your hand. You will have the opportunity to add your stone to a cairn being built in the cathedral entrance.
“Cairns mark a standing point in our journey – the path we have travelled and the way ahead.
“Dean Keith’s cairn will stand in the cathedral as a memory of his part in our journey, until the anniversary of his ordination at Petertide on June 30.”
The Dean died at Harrogate District Hospital on Tuesday, May 21, hours after being admitted.
Two days before he died, the married father-of-two had written an announcement to be read at services at Ripon Cathedral.
In it he told the congregation that he had been unwell and that tests had revealed a growth in his upper abdomen which doctors were convinced was cancerous.
The note concluded: “I am at home at the moment, feeling very weak and tired, but in good heart. I know that come what may, God is with me, and my life is in his hands.”
