An electrical fault at a substation sparked fears of an explosion and fire in Harrogate.

Two North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue crews were called out to Hartwith Way last Thursday at 12.30pm.

The fault had caused a ‘large bang, sparks and oil to escape’ according to energy provider Northern Powergrid. No injuries were caused.

A spokesperson for the company said: “No one's power was interrupted as a result of the fault and our engineers attended and will carry out an investigation into the cause of the fault. We'd like to reassure customers that incidents of this nature are rare and not a common occurrence."
