A mixed picture - Not everywhere in Harrogate or the Harrogate district is blessed with the fibre optic cables and infrastructure required for good broadband.

The Harrogate Broadband Speed Report for the district, commissioned by the Harrogate Advertiser via Speedchecker Ltd shows places bypassed by the digital revolution in North Yorkshire are not, as had been thought, strictly limited to rural areas but also apply to parts of urban areas, too.

The good news is that Harrogate is punching above it weights, overall, compared to many other towns and cities in the UK in terms of superfast broadband. On average its broadband is nearly 3Mbps faster than neighbouring Leeds and Bradford.

The results of 5,000 speed test results collected by Speedchecker Ltd over the last 12 months in the Harrogate area confirm the common perception that the town leads the way nationally.

But the new report also raises a few shocks, showing it’s not only isolated areas which struggle but some urban ones, too.

Perhaps, less surprisingly, rural areas remain in general broadband blackspots in this fast-paced world.
