Everyman cinema welcomes start of Harrogate Film Festival

The sign says it all! Harrogate Film Festival is launched tonight and Everyman cinema has proclaimed its arrival in its traditional way - by putting a big message on its hoardings above the entrance.

As to what to expect in this new three-day festival which ends on Sunday night, the full programme is below with the industry workshops times and film competition times at the bottom.

Tonight, Friday at 7pm, the festival opens with a gala screening of Academy Award-winning Gravity starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock in Harrogate’s Crown Hotel.

Tonight, Friday at 6.30pm: Comedy-horror classic Shaun of the Dead inside the Hales Bar surrounding by real zombies

Saturday, noon): A Kids screening of Toy Story at Ashville College’s new state of the art facility.

Saturday, 5.30pm: Night at the Museum inside Royal Pump Room Museum complete with period costumes.

Sunday, 11am: British Cinema Showcase at the Crown Hotel.

Sunday, 4pm: Brian De Palma’s modern gangster classic Scarface inside Revolucion de Cuba bar-restaurant.

Finally, after three pulsating days, the first Harrogate Film Festival will wrap up on Sunday night with an awards ceremony at the Crown Hotel, including the presentation of the Critics Award by the Harorgate Advertiser's Graham Chalmers.

Founded by Harrogate production company Reel Film's Adam Chandler, this new film festival is more than just a series of classic movies shown in exciting locations.

It also seeks to in promote fledgling filmmakers through an international short film competition and a series of talks and workshops.

Sponsored by Raworths Solicitors, the finalists in the short film competition will be shown at Harrogate’s Everyman cinema in six separate categories on Saturday (1pm-3pm, 3.30pm-5pm, 6.30pm-8.30pm) and Sunday (11am-noon, 1pm-2pm, 2.30pm-4pm).

The workshops include: Saturday at Harrogate Theatre Hive - Filmmaking Workshop: 2pm-4pm and Acting For Film Workshop: 5pm-7pm.

Last but not least there is a Filmmaking Panel: The Future of Film on Sunday at the Crown Hotel, 4pm-5pm.
