The drop in performance between 2015 and 2016 saw the amount of waste recycled in the district drop by 5.6 per cent.

Following the successful opening of 14 North Yorkshire household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) on May 6 and 14, five more re-opened on Tuesday.

Tadcaster’s Station Road Industrial Estate is among the further sites to reopen in a safe and controlled manner, during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Coun Andrew Lee, Executive Member for Waste Management, said: “It is great to see all but one of the sites reopening.”

Social distancing must be observed, with people remaining at least two metres apart at all times.
