Recycling centre set to open next week

City Council bosses are hoping to reopen Wetherby’s Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) next week.

The site at Thorp Arch remains closed following Leeds City Council reopening other sites, including Seacroft.

Councillor Mohammed Rafique, Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment and active lifestyles, said: “We know the coronavirus has presented a number of challenges in terms of how residents manage and dispose of their waste.

“I would, therefore, like to offer a big thank you to residents for their continued patience and support in these challenging and unprecedented times.”

The council warns that until further notice, numbers will be restricted, and all visits will need to be pre-booked in a defined time slot.

To help ensure there are as many slots as possible, the sites will be open seven days a week with extended opening hours from 8am to 8pm.

Anyone arriving at any of the HWRC sites without proof of booking or corresponding car registration, will be refused entry.
