Fundraising drive after fire

THE Friends of the Valley Gardens are trying to raise £5,000 to help replace equipment that was destroyed in the fire at the park last month.

Harrogate Borough Council’s insurers have settled the claim, providing the council with just under £48,000 to replace the “fort”, which previously formed the centre of the children’s play area.

However, the council’s insurance excess amounts to £5,000: the target the Friends have set so they can help the council make sure the replacement is of equal value. They have already received £2,000 from Menwith Hill Community Heart Beat.

On December 8, everyone can view the replacement ideas at a consultation event to be held at the Sun Pavilion from 2pm – 6.30pm.
