But bins have been left overflowing with coffee cups, drink cans and dog waste along walking routes.

Coun Paul Wadsworth is asking everyone to be responsible to help prevent these buildups, to take their rubbish home if the nearby public bins are overflowing, while services are under pressure.

Coun Wadsworth (Shadow Spokesperson for Environmental Services) said: “I share the concern of local residents at the reports of overflowing bins across the city, especially on popular routes used by many local families.

“Walking is a brilliant way to stay active safely during lockdown, and we have lots of beautiful areas to enjoy in Leeds, but at this uniquely challenging time for the council when there is a huge amount of pressure on our bin collection service, we can all pitch-in to preserve our natural areas for the enjoyment of others.

“I would encourage everyone to be responsible and not over-fill a bin or leave rubbish on the ground if a bin is already clearly filled to capacity.

“Together we can prevent our public bins from overflowing, and ensure that we can all enjoy our walking routes as they were intended.”
