Teams from St Aidan’s High School have qualified for the North East England ‘A’ finals at the County round of the ESAA cup following superb performances from the school’s athletes this month.
Though the school has qualified two teams in recent years for the national finals, this is the first time that all four teams have made it to the regional final - the only school across the North East to do so.
School teams from across North Yorkshire were competing against each other and against teams from other north east counties in track and field events to score points.
The two boys’ teams both scored more points than any other team in the region, and it could be likely this puts them in a good position when it comes to the national finals.
Also in sport at St Aidan’s, two Year 8 students, Sophie Robinson and Fran Hirst have been selected for regional basketball teams.
Following the regional selection tournament held recently in Sheffield, Sophie has been selected to play for the North Yorkshire U13 girls’ team and Fran for the West Yorkshire team.
And Year 7 student Amber Bennett has been invited to represent Great Britain as part of the Leeds City Gymnastics Display Squad at the Gymnaestrada festival in Helsinki in July.
The festival lasts for eight days and the team has been asked to take part in the closing ceremony, which is an incredible honour.
