Pupils support wildlife

CHILDREN from Meadowside Primary School in Knaresborough have joined with the Friends of Jacob Smith Park and Harrogate Borough Council’s arboricultural team to put up ten bird and bat boxes on trees in the parkland.

The boxes, which have been placed on trees that include beech, sycamore, oak and horse chestnuts, were donated by member of the Friends, Sam Frankland, who was keen to see the school involved so that the boxes can be used as a resource for education as well as habitat.

The Friends of Jacob Smith Park would like to thank Sam for his very generous donation.

Chair of the Friends, Mr Richard Owen Hughes said: “This wonderful donation by Sam shows how much local people love and value this community space and his hard work in preparing the boxes ready for installation will ensure that they encourage nesting birds and bats for many years to come.”
