A NORTH YORKSHIRE company has donated a £450 carpet to a primary school to spruce up a classroom for the new academic year.
Schoolchildren returned to Pickhill CE School to find Calverts Carpets had generously supplied the new flooring. The company, which has stores in Ripon, Thirsk, Northallerton and Middlesbrough, answered a plea from FOPS, Friends of Pickhill School, to replace the old carpet.
Will Calvert, one of the company’s managers, said: “My family are all from this area and we always try to help local causes. It means a lot to us to help out a local school.”
Pupils Finlay Atkinson, 10, Tom Marley, five, and Andrew Marley, eight, welcomed floor layers Ryan Gaunt and Sean Cooper to school before the new term began.
Head teacher Christine Gabbott added: “Over the past three years we’ve tried to create a more colourful, comfortable environment for the children and we felt it was time for the old carpet to be replaced. Everyone is delighted with the new-look classroom and we’d like to say a big thank you to Calverts and the parents who worked to make this happen.”
Sue Wadsworth, chairwoman of the school’s governors, added: “I am delighted that Calverts Carpets, a long-established and well-respected business, has shown their support for the success of Pickhill School with this most generous gift.”
