First choice places for most pupils

MORE than 95 per cent of pupils were given their first-choice place at secondary school in North Yorkshire this week.

The figure is among the highest in Yorkshire and is an improvement on last year. 52 children across the county - around 0.8 per cent - did not get a place at any of their preferred schools.

Coun John Watson, executive member for schools, said: “As a local authority we work with schools across the county to make sure all of them deliver the highest standards of education so that families who are not given first preferences will nevertheless be able to send their children to good schools.”
