As students across the district get ready to head out to celebrate, or commeserate this morning’s results Mr Jones, said: “It is an ever more competitive market for jobs and the right qualifications and skills give young people an enormous advantage. A levels are an important part of that qualifications and skills mix and I would like to congratulate all those who have received their results today.

“Getting a good education is important and there is a huge support team of teachers and support staff behind every pupil. In congratulating the pupils I would also like to record my gratitude to that team for teaching and motivating the pupils during these important years of their education.”

He added: “While firm results are not yet published for the whole of England early indications are that North Yorkshire schools have again performed extremely well compared to the national average.

“Some will not have achieved the grades for which they hoped. I would say to them not to be too disheartened. There are many options open to them and they should take their time – along with their parents, teachers and careers service - to examine them.

“Once again well done to everyone and I wish all the very best of luck to all students in whatever they decide to do in the future.”
