Donation boost to Harrogate Easier Living Project (HELP) smashes fundraising expectations

Sainsbury’s Superstore on Wetherby Road has donated £3,000 to its local charity partner, HELP, bringing its fundraising total to £10,200 from various activities over the past two years.

Employees of Sainsbury’s store on Wetherby Road have forged close links with HELP, raising thousands to support older and vulnerable people living independently across the district, as well as donating their time to volunteer with the charity’s Help at Home service.

In the last 12 months, the Great Place to Work team at the store have completed 320 hours of volunteering to directly support HELP’s clients; carrying out two large-scale gardening challenges for clients who are unable to carry out the work themselves due to mobility or illness, as well as decorating a bungalow for a wheelchair user.

Lizzie Hughes, Project Development Worker at HELP, said: “The incredible fundraising efforts of the Sainsbury’s staff make a real difference to our charity and the services we provide. But it’s the team’s volunteering efforts that have had a lasting effect on the people we support and we’re very grateful for the time they have given to our Help at Home service.”

HELP runs services aimed at helping local older or vulnerable people to continue living independently. Alongside the practical support provided by Help at Home, the charity helps people get out and about with the support of volunteer befrienders and volunteer drivers.
