A Harrogate couple marked their diamond wedding with a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress Nigel and Lynn Simms to a reception at Ashdale Court on June 11.
Iris and Donald Rawlings, pictured, who were married at St Martin’s Church in Chapel Allerton in 1955, also received a letter of congratulations from HM the Queen and a family party was held on June 13.
They are second in the family to have reached such a mile stone as Iris’ parents Mr and Mrs Hodgson celebrated their diamond wedding in August 1989.
Donald worked in the printing trade for 50 years and Iris worked as a telephonist at GPO in Leeds.
They have two children and five grandchildren and said their secret to such a happy marriage was to have your own interests but make sure you always spend time together and remember the things you love about each other.
