Delays as motorway closed between Harrogate and Wetherby after vehicle fire

The A1(M) southbound is currently closed between Junction 47 for the A59 at Harrogate and Junction 46 near Wetherby due to a HGV fire.

Highways England has issued a statement to say that firefighters on the scene to extinguish the fire, but this may take some time as the vehicle was carrying batteries.

It also said that there is currently around 2.8 miles of congestion on the A1(M) southbound between Junction 48 for Boroughbridge and J48 for Harrogate, adding around 20 minutes to normal journey times.

Drivers are being urged to divert from the route via the A168 at either Junction 47 or 48.
