Dacre, Darley and Summerbridge
Jubilee Orchard at Summerbridge School: pupils at Summerbridge Primary School are preparing to plant a Jubilee Orchard of fruit trees at a ceremony in the school grounds on Friday, November 30 at 11.15am. A small orchard of apple and pear trees has been donated to the school by The Charity of William Hardcastle. This local charity was established in 1695 and for more than 300years has supported pupils who live or attend school in Dacre or Summerbridge. The orchard is being planted to celebrate this special year and also to help pupils understand the processes involved in the production of fruit. Mrs Pat Hutchinson, chair of the charity said, The trustees wanted to help the school commemorate Jubilee year and this orchard will provide a valuable resource for learning as well as an attractive amenity for the village.
