The English Village: Martin WAinwright, the northern editor of the Guardian and a regular contributor to Radio 4 will be talking about his latest book The English Village at Christ Church Community Centre on Monday, October 29 at 7.30pm. Martin is an excellent and amusing raconteur and this promises to be a fun evening. Tickets £5 from Darley Community Library or 781535.

Summerbridge WI: the speaker at the October meeting was Danielle Mulholland from St. Johns Ambulance. Danielle spoke with great enthusiasm about her work with St. John’s Ambulance. There are 23,000 members and it is one of the largest youth organisations, after cubs and scouts, with 20,000 young members. On average, 125,000 people are treated in one year. It began in 1099 during the Crusades and there are now 300,000 members worldwide. The next meeting is at 6.30pm. on Monday, November 5 when we meet at Jane Lowthers home for a social evening with supper. For further details ring 780479.
Nidderdale Society walk: the next walk will be Kirkby Malzeard area on Tuesday, October 30 starting at Main Street at 10.30am. The leader will be Gwynneth and the walk will be 5.25 miles long. For more information contact 01423 780946.
Hookstone Billiards and Snooker Club: at Hookstone Hall(HG3 2QN). Would you like to join our club and play in our newly refurbished room on the championship-standard table? We are keen to increase our membership and anyone interested will be most welcome. Coaching lessons for all ages over 12 years will be starting in October.
