James Bond Comes to Darley: see Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall, the latest Bond movie, on Friday, October 4 on the Giant Screen at Darley Memorial Hall. Doors open at 7pm. You can pay at the door (Adults £4, Children £2). Be sure to experience the thrills and spills as 007 confronts his worst nightmares.

Pink Craft fair: in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Centre, Leeds will be held at Dacre & Hartwith village hall in Dacre Banks on Saturday, October 5. It will start at 11.30am, in time for morning coffee, and will continue over the lunchtime period so sandwiches and cakes etc will be available, it will finish at 2.30pm. There will be a good variety of craft stalls selling a range of products including hand made cards, toiletries, cosmetics and jewellery. There will also be a raffle, tombola, Children’s tombola, face painting, Pink Stall and lots more. Reflexology/reiki/colours are also on offer on the day. Appointments are for 30 minutes and will cost £10. If you think you would be interested please contact Sally on 01423 781465 or 07754 237721 to make an appointment. Booking would be preferred but not essential.

Please come along and support us on the day, alternatively if you can’t join us on the day but you would like to help please search your cupboards for any unwanted items that can be used on the tombola, children’s tombola, raffle or Pink Stall. Alternatively if you can bake cakes, scones or biscuits these would also be very welcome. All day grub: Hookstone Memorial Hall, Low Lane, Thornthwaite will be serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon teas, ice cream 9.30am-4.30pm on Saturday, October 5 and every first Saturday in the month until December. Raising funds for the hall - Charity No: 701972.

Nick’s Quiz, Royal Oak, Dacre Banks: the next quiz will be held on Sunday, October 6 at 8pm to raise funds for Dacre Banks, Crown Green Bowling Club. The quiz has a £2.50 entry fee per person, included is a pie and pea supper and several prizes. Preferably teams of no more than four but not enforced. It is advisable to ring Anna or Steve on 780200 and book a table. This also helps with the catering, although not essential. Just come and have some fun, we will find you a space and it is for a good cause.

Free Cafe Style Event: a morning with Barbara Butler, wife of Bishop Tom Butler, executive secretary of Christians Aware, author, traveller, and builder of bridges, Gandhi, the Beatitudes and Living in the Real World, Saturday, October 5, 10.30 for 11am at Christ Church Community Centre, Main St, Darley. Come for coffee, talk and discussion, and bring lunch to share if you would like to stay a little longer. Dacre Short mat Bowling Club: the AGM was held on Saturday, September 14 and it was agreed to start the winter season at Dacre & Hartwith Village Hall on Friday, October 4 starting at 1.30 pm. Old and new members are most welcome to attend. The AGM passed a motion to increase membership fees to £15 per person per season but maintain the attendance fee at £2 per session. Non-members to pay £5 attendance fee with £3 being allocated towards attaining full membership status. These were the first changes implemented to fees for 5 years but with rental costs having increased over this period it has become necessary. Short mat bowling can be enjoyed by adults of all age groups with or without experience so if you are interested either just turn up or telephone Stewart Goosey on 01423 712322 for more information.

Summerbridge WI: the next meeting is on Monday, October 7, 7pm in Dacre Village Hall, when a member of the fire service will be advising us how to keep safe in the home. The competition is a safety slogan. Visitors and new members will be made very welcome.

Cycle Maintenance Course: as the Tour de France cycle race is coming to the Harrogate area next year we would like to encourage everyone to prepare their own bikes for the summer. We are planning to arrange a cycle maintenance course at Christ Church Community Centre in Spring and before we book a cycle specialist we need to know if there is enough interest in the village and surrounding area to run this course. Dr Thirsty returns to Darley: Dr Thirsty, the ever-popular revival band, make a welcome return to Darley Memorial Hall on Saturday, October 12. Dr Thirsty put the emphasis on enjoyment of their music for all ages, and include music from the 1960s right up to the present day. You can dine and dance the night away to their music on Saturday, October 12. The event runs from 7.30-11.30pm and the tickets are £17.50 to include a delicious two-course hot supper.
