Cyclist killed in accident near Pateley Bridge

POLICE ARE appealing for information after a cyclist died near Pateley Bridge.

The accident happened at 4pm on Friday when the cyclist was riding with a friend on the B6265 outside Lambs Hill farm on the road from Greenhow to Pateley Bridge.

The 38-year-old man from Lancashire was travelling from the direction of Greenhow down Red Brae Bank towards Pateley Bridge with his friend, who was also on a bicycle. The cyclist lost control and collided with a stone wall sustaining fatal injuries. Sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward. In particular they are keen to speak with anyone who remembers speaking to two cyclists at the Toft Gate Barn café who were heading towards Pateley Bridge on Friday afternoon.

In addition, officers are keen to trace a woman who stopped at the scene to assist, she was believed to have been driving a small blue car.

The dead man was riding a blue Carrera cycle and his friend was riding a red Raleigh cycle. Both had high visibility rucksacks with them.

Any witnesses to the collision and the woman who stopped at the scene, are ask to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Traffic Constable Mark Hutchings of the Major Collision Investigation Team, or by emailing [email protected].

The road was closed until 7.15pm to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.
