A young woman was targeted by a would-be thief who tried to snatch her handbag in Harrogate last Friday.

The 22-year-old was approached by a man in his 20s - said to be just 5ft 2in tall - as she walked along King’s Road at around 2pm.

Police say the man, who is white but has a ‘tanned’ complexion, grabbed her handbag from behind before fleeing the scene empty handed when she refused to let go.

“Thankfully the victim was not hurt during this incident,” said PC Linsey Moore, of Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team. “However, she was naturally left very shaken by the experience.

“If you witnessed the robbery attempt I urge to come forward and contact the police straight away.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who can identify the man responsible and ask them to get in touch as soon as possible.”

The suspect was last scene heading down the side of the Ascot House Hotel.

He is said to be white, with a tanned complexion, aged in his twenties, around 5ft 2in to 5ft 3in tall with a slim build.

He was wearing a hooded top with the hood up and a scarf over his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call Harrogate police on 101, asking for Linsey Moore, or emailing linsey.moore@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
