Van driver hospitalised after substance 'causing burning and stinging sensation' thrown in their face near Knaresborough

North Yorkshire Police say that the driver of a grey and black Peugot van was driving on Farnham Lane between 4.20pm and 4.40pm yesterday (25 July), and was followed by a dark blue Mazda car.

The Mazda collided with the van and the occupants threw a substance into the van driver's face. Police say the driver was treated at hospital but it has had 'no lasting effects.'

At around 1.30am the following day North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Crews were called out to reports of a car fire on Bar Lane in Knaresborough. Police believe that this was linked to the incident. NYFRS say that the car was totally destroyed in the fire.

NYP are now appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage from people who were travelling in the area at the time. They are hoping to trace the driver of a white Volvo and truck driver who may have been involved in near-misses with the vehicles involved.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for information from anyone who was travelling in this area at the time and may have seen either of these vehicles driving in an erratic matter, witnessed the collision, saw anyone acting suspiciously in Bar Lane, or may have dash cam footage of these vehicles."
