The theft was part of a number of burglaries across Harrogate in January which included two burglaries in Burn Bridge, one in Pannal and another in the Duchy.

These took place over three consecutive nights from January 20 but North Yorkshire Police say they have now seen a decline of offences in February.

Police have confirmed they have arrested an 18-year-old from West Yorkshire in connection with one of the Burn Bridge burglaries where a car was stolen. The teenager is currently on police bail while enquiries remain ongoing.

Harrogate saw a spike in home burglaries from late summer to November with cash, vehicles and jewellery stolen from a number of residencies.

Following effective responses, problem solving and target hardening, a number of arrests were made by police which they say has brought the crime spike to an end.

Police said that through 'effective education, partnership collaboration and robust patrol strategies,' they were hoping to maintain or reduce current burglary levels.
