A POLICE search has been launched in the Starbeck area as police try to find a man who has been missing for nearly a week.

Kenneth Thompson, 45, was last seen by his mother leaving his house on St Andrews Walk at around 8.30am last Friday morning.

When he hadn’t returned by the following morning he was reported missing by concerned members of his family.

Insp Bruce Prendergast, of Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This is clearly a very worrying situation for Mr Thompson’s family and it is important that we locate him as soon as possible.

“Due to the amount of time that has elapsed since Mr Thompson was last seen, we are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare.”

Officers have been making “extensive enquiries” in the area, going door to door and searching land in Starbeck and to the east of Harrogate.

The search is ongoing today, police said.

An appeal has been launched as police ask for the public’s help in trying to find him.

He is described as white, 5ft 7in tall, with a medium build, blue eyes, light brown cropped hair and a moustache.

When he was last seen, Mr Thompson, who wears glasses, was wearing a dark blue Morrisons sweatshirt and black jeans

Police are urging anyone who knows where Mr Thompson is or has seen him around, to get in touch.

Insp Prendergast said: “I am urging all members of the public in Harrogate to keep their eyes peeled and let the police know as soon as possible if they see Mr Thompson or have any other information that can help us to locate him.

“I would also appeal directly to Mr Thompson to get in touch with the police or his family if he sees this appeal and let us know that he is are safe and well.”

Anyone who can help officers to locate Mr Thompson is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Harrogate police, quoting reference number 12120050296.
