Police have urged Knaresborough householders to lock their doors after a spate of burgarlies.

Burglars struck at a house in the Rievaulx area in the early hours of Monday, April 1, sneaking in through an unlocked door and taking a handbag, which was found dumped close by, police said. Less than two hours later, someone tried to force locked patio doors at a home just a few streets away.

On Satuday, April 6, a home near the Waterside was targeted when theives came through an unlocked door to take another handbag.

Now Knaresborough police are appealing for help tracing the criminals.

PC Fiona Tetley said: “We believe suspects were seen in the area with torches.”

Officers are also appealing for witnesses to come forward after registration plates were stolen from a car on Mayfield Grove overnight between April 2-3. The plates were later discovered on a stolen car in the Wetherby area, but the stolen car’s original plates have yet to be found.

Anyone who finds abandonned registration plates should call police on 101.
