Police hunt alleged conman

A man who allegedly conned vulnerable people in Harrogate, is wanted after he failed to attend Harrogate Magistrates Court.

David Smith, aged 51 and of Bedworth, in Warwickshire, was due to appear at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court in October 2014, in connection with offering bogus gardening services to vulnerable people near Harrogate.

Smith was due to answer three charges of fraud relating to cold calling and taking cash payments in advance for work which he didn’t complete.

He is alleged to have committed the offences in the Summerbridge area in November 2013.

Officers are appealing to anyone with information that can help locate Smith to come forward as soon as possible.

He is known to have connections in the West Midlands, Doncaster, Sheffield, Selby and Leeds.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for PC Bill Hickson or Pateley Bridge police.
