After being missing for ten months, a veterinary practice reported to police on Sunday that they had found a cat dead in a local park.

The ginger cat, called Max, was found in a park between Roberts Crescent and Knapping hill with vets believing that his tail and ear were deliberately severed.

Max's owners had reportedly been resigned to the fact they would probably never see him again but were said to be "horrified" after finding out his cause of death.

Officers are investigating the incident and appealing for information about where Max has been for the past ten months and who is responsible for the attack.

Max is described as ginger with white paws, long white "socks" on his back legs and a white patch on his chest. The RSPCA have been informed of the attack.

Anyone with any information that could help the investigation is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask to speak to the Safer Neighbourhood Service Desk. Or emai [email protected]
