A manhunt is underway in Harrogate after a sex attack in Jennyfields.

Police say a woman was sexually assaulted this morning and they have been using sniffer dogs and helicopter teams to try and trace the man responsible.

Witnesses say fields and homes in the Jennyfield area were cordoned off early this afternoon, with officers still searching the scene.

Police patrols have now been stepped up and detectives are urging anyone with information on a man, wearing a dark jacket, who was seen in the area this morning, to come forward.

Det Insp Nichola Holden, of Harrogate CID, said the victim is receiving specialist support.

“We are doing everything we can to support the victim while our enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” she said.

“If anyone has information that could assist the investigation, please get in touch without delay. Even the smallest piece of detail could be important.

“We realise that local residents will be concerned by the incident. To provide extra reassurance, high visibility patrols have been put in place while the investigation is ongoing.”
