Man charged after racially abusing Harrogate police officer

A 22-year-old man from Harrogate has been charged after racially abusing and assaulting a police officer, leaving him with a 'few bruises'.

The incident happened at 2.24am on August 13 on Station Parade in Harrogate when the man became abusive towards a police officer who was dealing with an enquiry.

PC Smith of Harrogate Police tweeted about the incident, which he said had left him "a bit sore" and with a "few bruises".

The man was later arrested and charged with assaulting a constable in the execution of his or her duty; racially or religiously aggravated harassment/alarm/ distress by words

and use threatening or abusive words or behaviour.

He is due to appear at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on 7 September.
