Man attacked in nightclub

A MAN is recovering in hospital after a vicious assault in a Ripon nightclub which could leave him blind in one eye.

The 32-year-old victim was rushed to hospital and needed surgery to repair fractures to his cheek and eye socket.

Speaking yesterday, detectives said the assault at the Matrix nightclub on Kirkgate happened on Sunday, November 13, at around 1.30am, and involved a number of young men.

DS Dave Horne, of Harrogate CID, said: “The incident took place in the main area of the club, in full view of other club-goers and we know from our enquiries that a lot of people will potentially have witnessed what happened.

“I would encourage those people to do the right thing and have the decency to come forward so we can establish exactly how a man ended up in hospital suffering from serious injuries, which could cost him his sight in one eye.”

The victim was taken by ambulance to Harrogate District Hospital and later moved to York for surgery to repair the damage to his face.

Officers have checked CCTV footage in and around the nightclub and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“If you have any knowledge of this incident or were in the club at the time, please contact the police or Crimestoppers with information,” added DS Horne.

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact DS Horne or DC Keith Turner of Harrogate CID on 0845 6060247, quoting reference number 12110194534.
